Car-care guide
Mobile car valet or local car wash: which suits you?
Both get a dirty car clean. The difference is what each one does to the paint over a few years, and what it asks of your time and your driveway. Some cars suit the local car wash, and this guide says which ones.

What a five-minute wash does to paint over time
Speed comes from one bucket and shared media. The same mitt or brush moves from car to car, and whatever it collected from the last vehicle is still in it. Grit that should have been rinsed off first gets pressed against the panel and dragged along it.
A single visit rarely shows. The marks are shallow scratches in the clear coat, and they appear as a fine swirl pattern around the sun or a street lamp. Enough visits and the paint reads as flat and slightly hazy in direct light. That is a permanent change rather than dirt: swirl marks come out by machine polishing, which works by removing a small amount of clear coat. There is a finite amount of it on the car, so it is not a repair you want to keep needing.
How we wash, and why it takes longer
The order is the whole point. Loose grit comes off before anything touches the paint, so a pre-wash and snow foam go on first and are left to dwell, then rinsed away. Only after that does a mitt go near a panel.
The Premium Setup Wash adds decontamination ahead of all of this, chemical then clay, followed by a paint sealant. Everything after that first visit is holding a clean car clean, which is a shorter job, and it is why the Setup Wash costs more than a maintenance visit. That rhythm of one deep clean and then short scheduled visits is what a maintenance plan is.
- Pre-wash and snow foam to lift loose grit first
- Two buckets with grit guards, so dirt leaves the mitt and stays out of the clean water
- A clean wash mitt for paint, and separate tools kept for wheels
- Dried with clean drying towels, because hard chalk water spots a car left to air dry
When the local car wash is the right answer
Often it is. If you drive past one anyway and the car needs the mud off before Monday morning, that is a sensible five minutes. If what you actually want is a lasting finish rather than a quick clean, the honest comparison is a sealant against a ceramic coating.
- You pass it anyway and want the worst off today
- There is no driveway or private space for a mobile visit at home
- It is a lease car going back, and the finish is not your problem to protect
- It is an old, high-mileage car being run out, where swirl marks are beside the point
The downsides of a mobile visit
Weather moves appointments: strong wind, heavy rain, freezing conditions or an unsafe surface can mean rearranging, and we will contact you if so. It needs a private space with room to walk around the car. It has to be booked in advance, so it is not an answer to a dirty car at four o'clock this afternoon.
It also costs more per visit. A Premium Setup Wash is £100 for a small car and £175 for an XL vehicle, 4x4 or van, with maintenance visits between £30 and £70 depending on size and how often we come. What that buys is time and method.
The simplest way to decide
Ask how long the car is staying with you. For a year or two on a vehicle whose finish you are relaxed about, use whatever is quickest. For a car you intend to keep, or to sell yourself, how it is washed matters more than how often.
If that points you our way, send the make, model and your postcode. We will confirm the tier, the price and whether the location is suitable before anything is booked.
